Join Hiking with Geeks, Dallas for a beautiful 5.5 mile hike; geek or no geek, we all have a great time getting to know each other along the way! This hike should take approximately 2.5-3 hours as we typically take breaks and match one another’s speed as we go.
If you haven’t been before, Eagle Mountain Park is absolutely gorgeous and is situated on a natural canyon so as you drive up you can see the drop into the lake that the elevation makes. It overlooks the lake and provides some great scenery, and the trails lead down into the basin so it is a fun time going down initially and then walking back out of it towards the end of the hike! This provides great elevation changes throughout the hike, spanning over 400 acres and featuring 6 different trails, native trees, grasses and wildflowers, and is one of the most active wildlife spots for hiking in DFW. On our last hike here, we saw several deer crossing the trails lazily in front of us even in the middle of the day, so friendly! It is truly a place you have to experience for yourself, and it situated far enough out of the city that it is completely quiet on the trails, and as an added plus there are no bikers as it is not a DORBA trail, so let’s plan on a great morning full of scenic hiking fun together!
The event start time is the gathering time. Please meet at the picnic table under the pavilion at 9:30am. We’ll leave promptly 10 minutes after the scheduled start time (to give some cushion for late arrivers while still respecting everyone’s time). We’ll hike the trail starting no later than 9:40, depending on if we are waiting on anyone dealing with parking farther away or not, then get to know each other along the way as we hike.
Please keep in mind (on our HWG scale) that the trails at this location are rated as moderate for the DFW area because of some elevation changes, and also some non-covered stretches of the trail make for a hotter hike as well (but nothing we can’t handle, we got this)! Also, make sure to bring enough water to drink during the hike.
For those that want to grab a bite after our hike, we’ll make plans to eat afterwards nearby.
