About the trail
Waihe’e Ridge Trail is a 4 mi out and back hike in Wailuku, HI. Waihe’e Ridge Trail was kinda busy during our visit, and people were primarily hiking. Overall, the terrain was somewhat challenging, and effort-wise was somewhat hard. It’s definitely a great hike for fitness. There aren’t any opportunities to modify the route to create a longer or shorter distance.

Other pieces of advice
- There was lore leading up to the hike from locals (one local even told me I might die on the hike), a challenging climb, significant change in altitude, multiple ecosystems, companion hikers, and the reward of an incredible view at the top.
- Looking out over the ridge, I could see the ocean, mountains, and city below in one gaze– and the contrast of a weekend of rain and wind punctuated how beautiful the clear and sunny tropical day was.
- The trail was wet and muddy in parts, so hiking directly after it rains is not advised. The route was well maintained, but rugged and unpredictable. Keep an eye on the ground while ascending towards the end of the climb.
- Do this hike without question if you want to see more than just water and sand during your trip to Maui.
